Ever walked at the foot of a working volcano? That is possible at Arenal. Do you see the lava? Rincón de la Vieja is known for its sulphur baths and fuming mud pools. And Poás and Irazú volcanoes have lakes. This trip brings you to four volcanoes in combination with a visit to the beach, in between and at the end.

Day 1 / 3 - Dos Palmas Airport in Alajuela
After arriving at Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela, close to the capital city San José, Peter or Flor from hotel Dos Palmas will pick you up. From there it is a 5 min. drive, after which you can relax and acclimatize to the tropical Costa Rica.
The second day your rental car will be brought in and you can survey the surroundings, or e.g. visit Poás Volcano.

Day 4 / 6 - Guyabo Lodge in Turrialba
Then you go to Santa Cruz de Turrialba where you will stay at beautiful and quiet Guayabo Lodge. From here you can visit Irazú Volcano with its grey moon landscape and the green crater lake. It is Costa Rica’s biggest and highest volcano at a hight of 3432m. Take some warm clothes!

Day 7 / 8 - El Mono Feliz in Ojochal
A few hours further to the beautiful south you will find the cozy cabañas of El Mono Feliz. They are not far from the beach, and from here you can also take a trip on a boat to spot whales and dolphins, and to go snorkling. Other possibilities are a visit to an Indian village, or making a tour through the mangroves, watching the cocodriles, monkeys and other wildlife.

Day 9 / 10 - Mar de Luz or Playa Bejuco (choice between the two) in and around Jacó
Relaxing on the beach, or take a day trip. Anything is possible!

> Mar de Luz is situated in the nice beach village of Jacó. It is a cozy family hotel with good facilities.
> If you go for more luxury you choose for Playa Bejuco. The chef will prepare the most wonderful meals for you. A quiet place on walking distance from the beach and only 25 min. by car south of Jacó.

Day 11 / 13 - Monte Terras in Tronadora
Then you go up north. In the province of Guanacaste you will stay in a cheerful cabina at Monte Terras. From here you can see Arenal Volcano. In the evening there is a chance to see the lava rolling down. And of course you can take a walk at the foot of this volcano, you will even walk over the lava rocks that came down in 1992.

Day 14 / 16 - Aroma de Campo in Curubandé
Even more to the north is Aroma de Campo where you will stay in a colourful room. Rincón de la Vieja Volcano is within reach. Here you can take various walks, to waterfalls, fuming mud pools and sulphur damps. The most spectacular hike is the one to the crater, that will take you seven hours. On your way you will see various kinds of trees and orchids, and perhaps monkeys?

Day 17 / 19 - Celaje or Fidelito Ranch (choice between the two) in Nicoya
On the Peninsula of Nicoya you will find these two hotels.
> Fidelito Ranch Fidelito Holiday Ranch is situated on 2,5 kms of the 7 kms long sandy beach of Playa Tambor, in the Ballena whale bay. It is built in hacienda style, and surrounded by woody hills, an excursion on the 60 ha Ranch is included. Within 20 minutes you are in the private wildlife park of Curu with the famous island of Tortuga to go snorkling or kayaking.
> Hotel Celaje is situated somewhat more to the south on the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, and 2 kms from Costa Rica’s oldest national park ‘Cabo Blanco Reserva’. The hotel is directly on the beach, with a wonderful view over the ocean. Here you can spot playing whales and dolphins, and also enjoy the Belgian beers and the Belgian cuisine.

Day 20 - Dos Palmas Airport in Alajuela
The last day you will be at Dos Palmas again. Enjoy the porch and the pool once more and reflect your holiday. Don’t forget to hand in the rental car in time.

Departure from San José, you will be taken to the airport.

It goes without saying that from each hotel various daytrips are possible. Here we made a selection from them. Prices are based on 2 persons. Do you travel with more persons, do you want to stay shorter or longer in some of the hotels, or shorten or lengthen your trip? That is possible.
